Southampton have won their last four home league meetings with Norwich City, all in the Premier League between 2014 and 2022.

This is the first league meeting between Southampton and Norwich outside the Premier League since a February 2010 game in League One, won 2-0 by the Saints under Alan Pardew.

Southampton manager Russell Martin has won eight of his last 10 Championship matches (D2) across spells with Swansea and the Saints. He is looking to become the first Saints boss to win his first two league games in charge since Glenn Hoddle in 2000.

Gabriel Sara created nine chances for Norwich in their 2-1 win over Hull, four more than any other player managed across the opening round of Championship games. His expected assist tally of 1.6 was also twice as high as any other player.

In their opening day 2-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton completed 930 passes, the most by a team in a Championship game since Fulham completed 935 against Millwall in August 2019. In that game, Fulham’s pass completion rate was 94.4% - since then, the only two teams to have a pass accuracy of 94% or more in a Championship game are Swansea vs Norwich in April (95.1%) and the Saints on MD1 (94.2%), both managed by Russell Martin.
