It’s been 10 years since Peterborough United breezed past Chesterfield in the 2014 EFL Trophy Final. The man in the dugout that day in the capital was none other than current boss Darren Ferguson. The 51-year-old – who also won the competition as a player with Wrexham in 2005 – was in his second stint as Posh manager when they triumphed at the National Stadium.

There were a number of familiar faces in both sides that day who will be involved again this year as Peterborough beat Paul Cook’s Chesterfield 3-1. Most notably, future EFL Trophy winning manager Ian Evatt turned out for the Spireites, while Ferguson named newly appointed Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann in the Posh starting line-up.

A decade on, Peterborough could mark the occasion when the road to Wembley begins this week. Ferguson’s men have been placed in Southern Group D to face Cambridge United, Colchester United and Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s.
