Watford may have eased past Preston but the Hornets still needed an inspired Ben Hamer between the sticks to wrap up a 5-1 win. Hamer made a total of nine saves at Deepdale to feature in the EFL team of the week.

Right-back: Finley Stevens (Oxford) - 8.20 rating

Oxford eased to a 3-0 home win over Burton with Finley Stevens doing enough to return a WhoScored.com rating of 8.20. While he was unable to provide an assist, it wasn't for want of trying as the 20-year-old managed three key passes. Stevens also made two interceptions and one tackle to feature.

Centre-back: James Chester (Barrow) - 8.62 rating

Barrow made it six wins on the spin at Swindon's expense over the weekend with centre-back James Chester the star of the show at the County Ground. Chester netted the Bluebirds' third in a 3-0 win, while nine clearances and two tackles saw the 34-year-old return a WhoScored.com rating of 8.62.

Centre-back: Fraser Horsfall (Stockport) - 8.59 rating

Partnering Chester at the back, Stockport may have trounced League Two footers Sutton 8-0 over the weekend yet they needed Fraser Horsfall to guarantee the clean sheet on home turf. Horsfall won an impressive 14 aerial duels and made 12 clearances on his way to a WhoScored.com rating of 8.59.

Left-back: Ibou Touray (Stockport) - 8.86 rating

Remaining at Edgeley Park, Ibou Touray rounds off the defence having garnered a WhoScored.com rating of 8.86 at the weekend. Touray provided his fifth and sixth assists of the season against Sutton, those coming from three key passes, while four clearances, one tackle and one interception helped the 28-year-old secure his place in the side.

Central midfield: Ethan Chislett (Port Vale) - 10.0 rating

Ethan Chislett returned a perfect WhoScored.com 10 rating on Saturday. Port Vale beat Wigan 3-2 over the weekend with Chislett superb having scored all three Valiants goals from seven shots. The 25-year-old defended well from the front, too, as he made three tackles at Vale Park.

Central midfield: Eli King (Morecambe) - 10.0 rating

The second of three players to earn perfect WhoScored.com 10 rating in the EFL team of the week, Eli King was directly involved in two of Morecambe's five goals at Doncaster on Saturday, following up his early goal with the assist for Michael Mellon's second late on, those coming from respective returns two shots and five key passes.

Central midfield: Finn Azaz (Plymouth) - 9.61 rating

Star performer from Plymouth's 3-2 win over Rotherham, Finn Azaz directly contributed to all three Pilgrims goals on home turf. Indeed, the 23-year-old netted with two of eight shots and provided the late assist for Morgan Whittaker's strike with one of four key passes in the entertaining victory.

Striker: Paddy Madden (Stockport) - 10.0 rating

The player of the match from Stockport's win over Sutton, Paddy Madden scored goals two, three and four for the season as he netted a hat-trick from four shots. With one clearance, one interception and one aerial duel won to his name, Saturday's showing was far and away Madden's best of the season.

Striker: Vakoun Bayo (Watford) - 9.46 rating

The second Watford player in the XI is striker Vakoun Bayo with a WhoScored.com rating of 9.46. Bayo was directly involved in three of the Hornet's five goals, netting either side of half time with two of three shots and providing the assist for Ismael Kone's late goal with one of two key passes.

Striker: Michael Mellon (Morecambe) - 9.41 rating

Morecambe smashed Doncaster 5-0 at the Eco-Power Stadium over the weekend with young striker Michael Mellon on hand to score his 12th and 13th league goals for the season. The Scot struck with two of four shots and won three aerial duels to contribute towards a WhoScored.com rating of 9.41 to round off the XI.
