Nick Townsend was superb as Newport held MK Dons to a 0-0 draw at home on Saturday. The 29-year-old made a total of five saves in a player of the match performance at Rodney Parade to kick off the EFL team of the week with a WhoScored.com rating of 8.20.

Centre-back: Ben Tozer (Wrexham) - 8.40 rating

Wrexham extended their unbeaten run to eight matches as they beat Gillingham 2-0 on Saturday. Ben Tozer scored the decisive second for Wrexham, hitting the back of the net with his only effort on goal. In addition, Tozer made seven clearances and won three aerial duels in a player of the match performance.

Centre-back: Tom Davies (Tranmere) - 8.32 rating

Tranmere ended a four-game losing streak in fine fashion as they beat 10-man Forest Green on home turf. Tom Davies was key at the heart of the Rovers defence, as evidenced by a WhoScored.com rating of 8.32. The 31-year-old was vital in attaining a clean sheet as he made six clearances, four tackles and three interceptions, and won five aerial duels, in a solid rearguard display.

Centre-back: Wesley Hoedt (Watford) - 8.07 rating

Completing the defence is Watford's Wesley Hoedt after the Hornets' 5-0 home win over Rotherham. The 29-year-old was solid at the back for Watford as he won eight aerial duels and made four clearances and two interceptions. The Dutchman also made 61 accurate passes to contribute towards his inclusion with a WhoScored.com rating of 8.07.

Right midfield: Kwame Poku (Peterborough) - 9.23 rating

Peterborough eased to a 5-0 win over Cambridge with winger Kwame Poku the star of the show. Indeed, Poku was directly involved in three of five goals, following up his assist for Ephron Mason-Clark's opening with a brace of his own from respective returns of one key pass and four shots.

Central midfield: Ruben Rodrigues (Oxford) - 9.34 rating

The EFL's star performer this week is Oxford's Ruben Rodrigues who returned a WhoScored.com rating of 9.34. Rodrigues was instrumental as the U's secured a 3-2 win at Leyton Orient. The 27-year-old netted twice at Brisbane Road, scoring with two of four shots, while two dribbles and two key passes saw the Oxford star yield a WhoScored.com rating of 9.34.

Central midfield: Alan Browne (Preston) - 8.88 rating

Partnering Rodrigues is Preston's Alan Browne after a standout display in the Lilywhites' 2-1 win at rivals Blackburn. The 28-year-old netted the opening goal at Ewood Park with his only shot of the game and he also drove Preston forward from deep well having completed three dribbles. Browne also made six tackles, three clearances and two interceptions on his way to a WhoScored.com rating of 8.88

Left midfield: Phoenix Patterson (Fleetwood) - 9.22 rating

Fleetwood eased to a 3-0 win over Exeter on Saturday with Phoenix Patterson playing a starring role from the left flank. The 23-year-old was directly involved in two of Fleetwood's three goals, following up his assist for Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu's strike on the half hour mark with a goal of his own shortly before the break. Those came from respective returns of five key passes and one shot as Patterson returned a WhoScored.com rating of 9.22.

Striker: James Collins (Derby) - 9.05 rating

James Collins scored two of Derby's three goals against Barnsley, netting either side of half time with two of four shots. Colins also won six aerial duels, and was a tad unfortunate not to register an assist having made two key passes, to lead the charge in the team of the week with a WhoScored.com rating of 9.05.

Striker: Danny Rose (Grimsby) - 8.88 rating

Danny Rose features alongside Collins on the frontline as Grimsby came from behind to beat Morecambe 3-2 on Saturday. Rose directly contributed to two of the Mariners' three goals at Blundell Park, bagging a 47th-minute equaliser with one of five shots before turning provider for Kieran Green two minutes later with his only key pass. An additional seven aerial duels won was enough to earn a WhoScored.com rating of 8.88.

Striker: Mileta Rajovic (Watford) - 8.52 rating

Rounding off the XI, Watford striker Mileta Rajovic scored two of the Hornets' five goals at Vicarage Road against Rotherham, as he found a way past Viktor Johansson with both shots. What's more, Rajovic won two aerial duels in a solid attacking display.
