Port Vale may have fallen to a 1-0 loss at home to Derby in midweek but Connor Ripley put in a player of the match performance to ensure the Valiants remained in the game up until full time. Indeed, Ripley made six saves in a player of the match display.

Centre-back: Brad Hills (Accrington) - 8.46 rating

Accrington were on the wrong end of a 4-3 home loss to Swindon on Tuesday night but Brad Hills did enough to secure his place in the EFL team of the week having netted twice in the defeat. Hills also won five aerial duels and made three tackles to return a WhoScored.com rating of 8.46.

Centre-back: Rav van den Berg (Middlesbrough) - 8.39 rating

Middlesbrough eased to a 4-0 win over Preston in midweek with Rav van den Berg putting in a player of the match shift from centre-back. The teenager netted Boro's second of the night midway through the first half and remainded defensively sound to ensure the clean sheet as he made six clearances, two interceptions and one tackle to feature.

Centre-back: Aden Flint (Mansfield) - 8.28 rating

Rounding off the backline is Mansfield's Aden Flint, who earned a WhoScored.com rating of 8.28 in a 2-2 draw with Tranmere. Flint provided the assist for Will Swan's equaliser and won a whopping 18 aerial duels to secure his place in the side.

Right midfield: Martial Godo (Wigan) - 8.85 rating

While Martial Godo was unable to directly contribute to a goal in Wigan's 3-0 win over Fleetwood, the 20-year-old gave the Cod Army backline a torrid time in midweek as he completed 11 dribbles. The 20-year-old also made two tackles in a player of the match performance.

Central midfield: Sammie Szmodics (Blackburn) - 9.12 rating

Blackburn star Sammie Szmodics makes the XI after his standout display in Wednesday's 4-2 win over Birmingham. Szmodics scored for the fourth game running as he netted twice from three shots at Ewood Park in midweek. The 28-year-old was a nightmare for the Birmingham backline too as he completed three dribbles and created two goalscoring chances.

Central midfield: Lewis Wing (Reading) - 8.69 rating

Lewis Wing is the first of two Reading players to make the EFL team of the week having earned a WhoScored.com rating of 8.69 in their resounding 5-1 win over Carlisle. Wing was directly involved in two goals having provided the assist for Harvey Knibbs' second and Reading's third in the first half before getting on the scoresheet himself with a little over 10 minutes to play, those coming frm respective returns of one key pass and four shots.

Central midfield: Conor Chaplin (Ipswich) - 8.78 rating

Ipswich secured just their second win from their last five games to get their promotion push back on track. The Tractor Boys got the better of Millwall at Portman Road with Conor Chaplin shining in the 3-1 win. Chaplin was directly involved in two of three goals, following up his early strike with the assist for Massimo Luongo's 12th-minute goal from respective returns of three shots and three key passes.

Left midfield: Nicholas Tsaroulla (Crawley) - 9.09 rating

Crawley fell to a disappointing 3-1 loss at Notts County in midweek but that didn't stop Nicholas Tsaroulla from putting in a player of the match performance in the defeat. The 24-year-old did all he could to help his side both on and off the ball as Tsaroulla managed six key passes, five shots and five dribbles, while also making seven tackles and two clearances.

Striker: Harvey Knibbs (Reading) - 9.61 rating

The second Reading player in the side as the Royals made it back-to-back league wins, Harvey Knibbs bagged a first half brace in the 5-1 victory over Carlisle. The 24-year-old hit the back of the net with two of three shots and was unfortunare not to add an assist having made three key passes. An additional four aerial duels saw Knibbs land a WhoScored.com rating of 9.61, better than any other player in the EFL in midweek.

Striker: Georginio Rutter (Leeds) - 8.85 rating

Leeds extended their unbeaten run to five matches as they came from behind to beat Swansea 3-1 at Elland Road. Georginio Rutter was directly involved in two of Leeds' three goals as he doubled the Yorkshire side's advantage shortly before the break and then turned provider for Daniel James on the hour mark. One shot, two key passes and five successful dribbles saw Rutter return a WhoScored.com rating of 8.85.
