"It's a dream come true" – Harrison Burrows

“It’s all a bit of a blur, I’m going to have to watch it back!”

It was a storybook day for Peterborough United captain Harrison Burrows after his late double inspired his boyhood Club to Bristol Street Motors Trophy glory at Wembley.

The 22-year-old, who was in attendance when the Club last won the competition a decade ago, converted a looping cross-shot in stoppage-time to clinch a dramatic 2-1 victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

“I always believed we could win, but I never thought we would do it like this,” he remarked. “To play at Wembley for Peterborough as captain, and then score the winner, is a dream come true.

“When the ball was in the air, I thought it had a chance and then to see it go in was unbelievable. Sometimes, you need a bit of luck in a cup final and fortunately, it went our way today.

“It’s just so good to see my family and my friends here and the fans with smiles on their faces – this is a moment I’ll remember forever.”

Following 85 minutes of deadlock, Burrows brought the game to life when his left-footed drive struck the back of the net before Wycombe substitute Dale Taylor produced a rapid response with a long-range leveller.

But it was the Posh skipper who was destined to have the final say, to the delight of fellow Academy graduate Ricky-Jade Jones, who shared the Wembley stage with Burrows having both come through the ranks together at the Club.

Jones said: “What a way to end a game. The skipper, Harrison Burrows – you couldn’t write it! That’s what he does, with his wand of a left foot.

“We’ve done everything together since the age of nine, coming through the age groups and now we’ve shared the big stage together, so it’s unbelievable. I’m just thinking, ‘what’s next?’

“That winning feeling is surreal and it’s something I want to do all the time now. I’ve got a taste for it and it’s onto the next one now.”
