On just his second league start for Bristol Rovers this season, Jed Ward put in a resolute display to help the Pirates to a 1-0 win at Exeter. The 20-year-old made a notable six saves to keep the Grecians attack at bay and return a WhoScored.com rating of 8.29.

Centre-back: Joe Low (Wycombe) - 8.43 rating

Wycombe claimed just their fourth away league win of the season on Saturday as they beat Cheltenhem 3-1 at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium. Joe Low was the star player in the victory as he returned a WhoScored.com rating of 8.43 as the centre-back won 17 aerial duels and made 11 clearances.

Centre-back: Jan Bednarek - (Southampton) - 8.19 rating

Southampton ended the gameweek in the automatic promotion spots as they beat relegatation-threatened Rotherham 2-0 at the New York Stadium. Centre-back Jan Bednarek was key in the victory, netting the opener with his only effort on goal and held firm at the back, making seven clearances and two interceptions, to return a WhoScored.com rating of 8.19.

Centre-back: Jack Grimmer (Wycombe) - 7.99 rating

Back to the Completely-Suzuki Stadium, and Jack Grimmer rounds off the defence following his solid display in Wycombe's win at Cheltenham. The 30-year-old fired the Chairboys ahead in the 20th minute, netting with his only effort in the 3-1 victory. Grimmer also won 10 aerial duels and made seven clearances and three tackles to round off the defence.

Right midfield: Abdul Fatawu (Leicester) - 8.76 rating

Leicester maintained their 11-point lead at the top of the table with an impressive 5-0 win at Stoke, a game in which Abdul Fatawu claimed the WhoScored.com player of the match award. The teenage winger provided the assist for Patson Daka's opener at the Potters, that coming from one of four key passes, and made three tackles in a superb display from the Foxes man.

Central midfield: Thelo Aasgaard (Wigan) - 8.76 rating

Wigan claimed an impressive scalp over the weekend as they beat promotion-chasing Peterborough 3-2 at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday. Thelo Aasgaard was directly involved in all three Latics goals, finding a way past Nicholas Bilokapic with two of six shots and providing the assist for Josh Magennis with one of two key passes to return a WhoScored.com rating of 8.76.

Central midfield: Brandon Aguilera (Bristol Rovers) - 8.68 rating

Brandon Aguilera shone on his League One debut for Bristol Rovers as he put in a player of the match performance against Exeter. The 20-year-old scored the only goal of the game on the south coast, and went on to complete five dribbles and make three interceptions and two tackles.

Left midfield: Zachary Ashworth (Bolton) - 8.67 rating

Bolton were held to a 1-1 draw with Barnsley at the Toughsheet Community Stadium over the weekend, a match in which Zachary Ashworth scored for the second league game running. The 21-year-old struck with his only effort on goal, and was unfortunate not to add an assist having made five key passes in a player of the match showing.

Striker: Matt Smith (Salford) - 9.65 rating

Matt Smith earned his 10th player of the match award of the season in Salford's 3-1 win over Wrexham having returned a WhoScored.com rating of 9.65. Smith bagged his 19th league goal of the season in the victory, and won a whopping 25 aerial duels to once again shine in the League Two team of the week.

Striker: Kieffer Moore (Ipswich) - 8.77 rating

With a WhoScored.com rating of 8.77, Keiffer Moore did enough to make the EFL best XI. The Welsh forwarded started Ipswich's 3-2 loss at Preston on the bench, yet was introduced at the break and excelled in the second half for the Tractor Boys, netting with two of seven shots and winning eight aerial duels in a fine cameo.

Striker: Joe Ironside (Doncaster) - 8.82 rating

Joe Ironside rescued a late point for Doncaster in their 1-1 draw at relegation-threatened Sutton. The 30-year-old maintained his composure to hit the back of the net from 12 yards deep into second half injury time, that strike coming from one of three shots. The 30-year-old also won 20 aerial duels to secure a WhoScored.com rating of 8.82.
