Goalkeeper: Nick Townsend (Newport) - 9.40 rating

Nick Towsend did all he could to help Newport to a result at title chasing Stockport on Saturday, though was unable to prevent his side from falling to a late 1-0 loss. Townsend made 11 saves in total at Edgeley Park, including a second half penalty stop to deny eventual match winner Paddy Madden from 12 yards, to land a WhoScored.com rating of 9.40.

Centre-back: Jacob Sørensen (Norwich) - 8.65 rating

Jacob Sørensen marked just his second league start of the season with a fine showing as he scored one and assisted another in Norwich's thumping win over Rotherham. Those came from respective returns of one shot and one key pass. Sørensen also made two tackles, two interceptions and two clearances to return a WhoScored.com rating of 8.65.

Centre-back: Carl Piergianni (Stevenage) - 8.31 rating

Stevenage may have been held to a 0-0 draw with Fleetwood over the weekend but the stalemate did extend their unbeaten run to four matches. Carl Piergianni was needed to put in a player of the match showing on home turf as the 31-year-old won 17 aerial duels and made four clearances and two interceptions to a return a WhoScored.com rating of 8.31.

Centre-back: Lewis Cass (Stockport) - 8.08 rating

Rounding off the backline is Stockport's Lewis Cass, who is good value for his inclusion with a WhoScored.com rating of 8.08. Cass won nine aerial duels as Stockport claimed a late 1-0 win over Newport, while additional returns of four clearances and two interceptions helped secure his spot in the XI.

Right midfield: Gabriel Sara (Norwich) - 10.0 rating

Boasting a perfect WhoScored.com 10 rating, Gabriel Sara is the EFL player of the week. Sara was directly involved in three of Norwich's five goals at the weekend, bagging a brace from five shots and providing one assist from five key passes. The Brazilian also made three tackles and three clearances in a standout display.

Central midfield: Jack Moylan (Lincoln) - 9.00 rating

Back to Oakwell now, and Jack Moylan was the player of the match having shone off the bench for the Imps. Indeed, Moylan bagged a second half brace from two of three shots, and made three tackles, as he garnered a WhoScored.com rating of 9.00.

Central midfield: Davis Keillor-Dunn (Mansfield) - 8.88 rating

Mansfield retained top spot in League Two as they battled to a 3-2 home win over Swindon on Saturday, with Davis Keillor-Dunn key. The 26-year-old followed up his assist for Lucas Akin's early opener with a goal of his own six minutes into the second half from respective returns of two key passes and six shots.

Left midfield: Borja Sainz (Norwich) - 9.30 rating

Back to Carrow Road now, and Borja Sainz put in far and away his best performance of the season against Rotherham having earned a WhoScored.com rating of 9.30. The 23-year-old struck with his only shot and should have had an assist having made four key passes as Norwich battered the Championship table footers.

Striker: Andy Cook (Bradford) - 8.80 rating

Andy Cook was directly involved in two goals over the weekend as Bradford eased to a 3-0 win at Accrington. Cook provided the assist for Tyreik Wright's 12th-minute opener at the Wham Stadium and then bagged his 14th league goal of the campaign in a player of the match performance.

Striker: Matt Smith (Salford) - 9.36 rating

Salford may have crashed to a 3-1 loss at MK Dons, but Matt Smith was on hand to shine on the frontline at Stadium MK. Smith netted the opener from one of five shots and was a handful for the MK Dons backline as he won an whopping 26 aerial duels on his way to a WhoScored.com rating of 9.36.

Striker: Alfie May (Charlton) - 9.09 rating

Charlton came from behind to beat Carlisle 3-2 on Saturday with Alfie May the star of the show. May was directly involved in all three Charlton goals, netting with two of four shots and providing one assist from four key passes to held earn a WhoScored.com rating of 9.09.
