Although Moses was just 19 years old when he won the award in December 2009, he was already a well-established Championship player having made his debut for Crystal Palace in 2007-08.

However, it was under the management of Neil Warnock where Moses really started to thrive and in a brilliant December he scored four goals in six appearances as Palace put themselves firmly in the Premier League promotion picture.

Born in Nigeria, Moses was just 11 years old when he was placed with a foster family in South London after his parents were tragically killed during riots in Kaduna.

Crystal Palace soon spotted his talent and he was fast-tracked into the first-team making his debut at 16.

After 32 appearances and two goals in 2008-09, Moses kicked on the following season and after getting a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Watford at the end of November, he carried that form into the following month.

Two goals in a 4-2 win at Reading were followed by further strikes in a draw against Barnsley and victory over Ipswich Town. It was these performances that saw him recognised as the EFL’s first ever Young Player of the Month a moment described by Moses at the time as ‘one of the greatest days of my life’.
