The excitement continued into midweek with Clubs in action across the Sky Bet Championship, Sky Bet League One and Sky Bet League Two.

Sky Bet Championship
Sunderland re-claimed pole position in the Championship standings with a midweek victory over Derby County. The Black Cats ran out 2-0 winners over the Rams at the Stadium of Light as England youth international Jobe Bellingham opened his account for the 2024/25 campaign with a spectacular strike before Wilson Isidor doubled the home team’s lead in the second half.

Meanwhile, Hull City made it three wins on the spin as Tim Walter’s men – who are just beginning to hit their stride – built on consecutive wins over Stoke City and Cardiff City with a 3-1 victory away at Queens Park Rangers. Goals for the Tigers were scored by Cody Drameh, Chris Bedia and Liam Millar.

Second-place Burnley maintained their unbeaten start to the season on home soil at Turf Moor. The Clarets have now registered three wins in four on their own patch after beating Plymouth Argyle 1-0 – a Josh Brownhill penalty the difference between the two teams on the night.
And Cardiff City recorded their first league win of the season. After being made to wait seven games, the Bluebirds – who are still without a manager following the departure of Erol Bulut – overcame Millwall in a 1-0 win as Perry Ng netted the winner.
Elsewhere, Coventry City saw off Blackburn Rovers in a 3-0 victory; Luton Town and Oxford United played out a 2-2 draw; Norwich City and Leeds United shared the points in a 1-1 draw, and Middlesbrough beat West Bromwich Albion in a 1-0 win.

Sky Bet League One
In League One, Birmingham City registered their seventh consecutive league victory – doing so for the first time since 1946 as a Club – beating Huddersfield Town 1-0 at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park. Blues striker Alfie May netted his fifth goal of the campaign – the only goal of the game – as the Blues remain undefeated in their start to life back in the third tier of English football.

Shaun Maloney’s Wigan Athletic jumped up to 14th place in the table after putting in an impressive performance to beat Peterborough United 3-0. Dale Taylor was at the double for the Latics on home soil and Callum McManaman put the icing on the cake to put the game beyond all doubt.

Elsewhere, third-place Mansfield Town registered a fourth win on the spin. The league’s leading marksman and the Stags’ summer signing Lee Gregory notched goal number six of the season while Ben Waine also made the score-sheet in a 2-0 victory over Crawley Town.
There was late drama at the Cledara Abbey Stadium. Visitors Rotherham United grabbed a last gasp winner in a 1-0 win over Cambridge United. Sam Nombe found the back of the net in the 92nd minute to take all three points back to South Yorkshire and win their first league game on the road since November 2022.
And Barnsley and Wycombe Wanderers registered a 2-2 draw; Bristol Rovers beat Charlton Athletic 3-2; Blackpool against Lincoln ended in a 1-1 draw; Exeter City beat Leyton Orient 1-0; Bolton Wanderers saw off Northampton Town in a 4-2 triumph; Stockport County beat Shrewsbury Town 2-0, and Reading ran out 3-1 winners over Burton Albion.

Sky Bet League Two
Fleetwood Town hit six against League Two high-flyers Walsall as Charlie Adam’s side beat the Saddlers 6-2 away from home. The visitors had to come from behind in the West Midlands after Walsall took an early lead. However, they weren’t disheartened. Ronan Coughlan and Kayden Hughes each bagged a brace before Matty Virtue and Mark Helm got in on the action.
Elsewhere, MK Dons were involved in another high-scoring affair as new boss Scott Lindsey got his first win under his belt as head coach of the Buckinghamshire team. Lindsey’s side beat Harrogate Town 5-1 with goals from Tommy Leigh, Joe White, Alex Gilbey, Connor Lemonheigh-Evans and Sonny Finch.
Meanwhile, league leaders Gillingham were beaten by Grimsby Town. The only goal of the game was scored by Mariners midfielder Kieran Green in the 21st minute as Grimsby close in on the top seven.

And second-place Notts County returned to winning ways after beating Carlisle United 2-0 at Brunton Park. Alassana Jatta made it five goals in as many outings in all competitions when he opened the scoring inside the opening 10 minutes and Scott Robertson doubled their lead before the interval.
In addition, Bromley and Chesterfield drew 2-2; Cheltenham Town beat Accrington Stanley 2-1; Doncaster Rovers saw off Barrow with a 1-0 win; Morecambe and Bradford City shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw; Newport County beat Salford City 3-1; Port Vale and Colchester United drew 1-1, and it finished 1-1 between Tranmere Rovers and Swindon Town.
