Birmingham City came from behind to defeat Wrexham 3-1 in a thrilling encounter at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park on Monday night.

A brace from Jay Stansfield on his second league debut for the Blues and a beauty from Tomoki Iwata ensured Chris Davies' side maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign and handed their opponents their first defeat of the season in the process.

It had started very differently for Wrexham, who took the lead with just three minutes on the clock, as Jack Marriott fired home after Tom O’Connor’s inswinging corner dropped loose to the forward to net his fourth goal of 2024/25.

Blues responded to that early setback on 22 minutes; Alfie May’s strike was too hot to handle for Arthur Okonkwo and the ball fell to Stansfield who poked home the rebound.

After a pulsating first 45, Blues started the restart the stronger and were rewarded seven minutes in as Stansfield bagged his second of the night by nodding home from Alex Cochrane's pinpoint cross.

A bumper crowd of 27,980 were in attendance, including Birmingham minority owner and NFL star Tom Brady who was joined by David Beckham. The former England captain would have been proud to have scored Blues' third of the night as as Iwata let fly with a thunderous low strike into the far corner just before the hour mark.

In a keenly contested affair, Birmingham were forced to play the closing stages with ten men as Krystian Bielik received a second yellow card for a mistimed challenge on Andy Cannon, but the hosts comfortably managed to see out the fixture to move up to second in the Sky Bet League One standings.
