The January nominations for the Sky Bet League Two Manager of the Month Award are:
Graham Alexander (Bradford City)
Losing leading scorer Andy Cook could have derailed Bradford’s season, but Alexander switched to a 3-4-3 system to accommodate key players returning.
Thirteen points from five unbeaten games included a decisive 3-0 win over leaders Walsall.
Ian Holloway (Swindon Town)
January was the month in which Holloway’s methods brought greater defensive solidity to underpin Swindon’s attacking prowess.
As well as 13 points from six games, their greater unity saw goals scored by eight different players.
Johnnie Jackson (AFC Wimbledon)
Jackson appears to have fixed the consistency issues which undermined the Dons last season.
His team is tighter at the back, conceding just two goals in four unbeaten games as they picked up eight points to maintain their promotion push.
Grant McCann (Doncaster Rovers)
The tag of pre-season promotion favourites has weighed heavily on McCann’s players at times.
But his clear messaging about staying patient and calm saw them win four of their five January games and move into second place in the table.
The January nominations for the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month Award are:
David McGoldrick (Notts County) - striker
Class is permanent. McGoldrick continues to make a goalscoring impact at 37.
His four goals in five games came in braces against Swindon and Accrington and owed much to his poacher’s instincts. His skill also won a penalty against Bromley.
Joseph Olowu (Doncaster Rovers) – central defender
Olowu has taken a step forward this season, adding a mature calmness and decision-making to his natural pace.
He is establishing himself in a Doncaster defence that kept two clean sheets, while he scored the opening goal in the win at Barrow.
Alex Pattison (Bradford City) – midfielder
Pattison has had a disjointed season with injury and suspension, but used his energies and enthusiasm to positive effect with three goals and an assist.
This included a surging run against Grimsby and a breathtaking 50-yard solo effort against Walsall.
Shaun Whalley (Accrington Stanley) - midfielder
The second 37-year-old on this month’s League Two list, Whalley’s leadership skills and inspiration have lifted the young players around him, while his four goals in five games included a brilliant, impudent chip for the winner at Crewe.
