Blackpool FC School upgrade Ofsted rating to kick-start 2025

Blackpool FC (BFC) School had a stellar start to the new year after a recent inspection saw great improvement on their previous Ofsted rating.

BFC School, which provides full-time education for Year 10 and 11 students who require an alternative to mainstream schools, was deemed ‘Good’ after being judged against four key areas during their Ofsted visit at the tail end of last year.

Their overall rating wasn’t the only standout, however, as remarks from the report spotlighted how support from BFC and the Community Trust (BFCCT) has fed into the schools’ wider impact on the local community.

Students’ overall attendance is higher...and most are getting qualifications and achieving beyond their expectations.

Extracts taken from the report read: ‘Pupils learn about the importance of kindness and community through a range of charitable activities…For example, they learn about healthy relationships, how to care for their mental health, and the many difference that exist between people.

‘[Pupils] are polite and kind…and proud to act out the positive behaviours that they see from staff. They make a strong contribution to the calm and respectful atmosphere that exists at the school.’

The school was founded on the BFC Community Trust’s (BFCCT) ambition to support young people who have struggled to find an environment that lent to their overall development.

Now entering its fourth academic year, the school has successfully exceeded all expectations according to the CEO of BFCCT, Ashley Hackett, who also confirmed their student’s improved perception of education since joining.

“The environment the staff has built allows students to be themselves, which then allows each individual to get the education they need.

“Students’ overall attendance is higher at BFC school than in their previous schools, and most are getting qualifications and achieving beyond their expectations.

“I’m unbelievably proud of all the hard work the team have shown to support these young people and thank them for their dedication to, not just the week our Ofsted inspection took place, but for every week they give to making these pupils’ lives happier and healthier.”
