The final findings from the ‘Measuring the Impact of EFL Clubs in the Community’ report, produced in conjunction with research organisation, Substance, demonstrate that EFL Clubs are investing 12% more revenue in their local communities whilst contributing to employment for over 60,000 people.

The headlines of this report tell us that in 2023/24:

  • 1.1 million participants were engaged in community activity during the 23/24 season
  • 465,601 sessions were delivered to participants over 890,878 hours
  • A social value of £1.24 billion was created during the season
  • Related to outcomes, this value can be directly related to annual cost savings, for example, a £14.45m saving to the health service related to reduced incidents of diabetes
  • Clubs and their charities spent £663.28m on local, regional, national, and international suppliers. Of this total, 62% is reported as being spent locally
  • Clubs and charities directly provided or supported 68,587 jobs
  • Based on supporter survey data, spending at matches was estimated at £1.88bn. Of this, 69% was spent on food and drinks, travel and accommodation outside of stadiums
  • Clubs are playing a large part in supporting their local businesses, collectively spending over £410m with local suppliers.

Compared with previous reporting in January 2023, EFL Clubs:

  • Generated 12% more revenue to invest in their communities (£113.46m compared with £101.12m)
  • Delivered 5% more staff hours of community support (5.55 million compared with 5.28 million)
