Connects FC visits Sheffield Wednesday during EFL Community Weekends
Football Clubs environments can be the catalyst to bring people together. Millions of people across the UK are reported to suffer a sense of disconnection from society. Last season, Jameson and EFL in the Community launched “Connects FC”, seeking to create a community of like-minded people through the transformative power of football.
As the EFL recognised local heroes up and down the country for the impact they make in their communities, Jameson took their latest “Connects FC” event to Sheffield Wednesday’s iconic Hillsborough Stadium.
Former Sheffield Wednesday forward and Connects FC Ambassador, Clinton Morrison, welcomed 60 guests from various Sheffield Wednesday supporters' groups, in a bid to unite a number of local community groups through their shared passion for football. Fans included representatives from the Rainbow Owls, Armed Forces Group, Wise Old Owls, Sheffield Owls Disabled Association, and other community participants associated with the Club.
The guests enjoyed a Q&A with Sheffield Wednesday legends – Terry Curran, Roger Wylde, and Lawrie Madden - before embarking on a stadium tour. Over lunch, full-back, Max Lowe, and Assistant Coach, Chris Powell, also took part in conversations with the group and Morrison.
This event is one of a series being held in the heart of football communities up and down the country. Jameson donates £2,500 to each participating EFL Club charity.
Josh McCarthy, Brand Director at Pernod Ricard, said: “Just like football, Jameson has always brought people together to make real human connections. Our partnership with the EFL and EFL in the Community has allowed us to take this even further with our Jameson Connects FC program.
“It's an amazing platform bringing fans from all backgrounds and across generations together through a shared passion for football.
“We've had the chance to meet some amazing people across the country and our latest stop at Sheffield Wednesday was another special one.
“These events really give you a buzz as we offer fans the chance to experience ‘behind the scene’ elements of stadia, as well as meeting and connecting club players and legends to share special moments within their local communities - they're events that leave you feeling as warm as a Jameson Hot Toddy in the winter! We can't wait for the next stop to meet more fantastic fans.”
Ben Winter, Deputy Head of Community at Sheffield Wednesday, added: “It’s our obligation as a Club to give back to the community.
“I think events like today bring people from the community together - people from diverse, cultural, and ethnic communities, and we’re able to share experiences with each other.”
