Goalkeeper: Alex Bass (Notts County) – 6.80 rating
Notts County goalkeeper Alex Bass kicks off the XI after helping his side to a play-off place and the division’s seventh-strongest defensive record.
Notts County kept 18 clean sheets along the way, while Bass produced 122 saves in just 39 appearances and boasted the league’s strongest save success rate (74.5%), earning a WhoScored.com rating of 6.80.
Centre-back: Mickey Demetriou (Crewe) – 7.53 rating
After a remarkable 15 goal involvements last year, Crewe defender Mickey Demetriou enjoyed another fine campaign this time around, albeit with fewer contributions in front of goal.
The 35-year-old scored two goals and provided one assist, while he also ranked second among players in his position for aerial duels won (264) and fifth for clearances (342). Demetriou’s WhoScored.com rating of 7.53 makes him the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Season.
Centre-back: Sam Stubbs (Cheltenham) – 7.33 rating
Cheltenham’s Sam Stubbs earns a place at the heart of our defence after an impressive individual campaign, where he made more interceptions than any other player in the division (78). Stubbs also ranked highly for aerial duels won (275 - first among defenders), and clearances (418 - second).
Centre-back: Connor Hall (Port Vale) – 7.23 rating
Port Vale defender Connor Hall rounds out the back three having helped his side to automatic promotion from League Two, with 18 clean sheets second only to AFC Wimbledon and Colchester over the course of the campaign (both 21).
Hall ranked sixth among all players in League Two for interceptions (59) and third for clearances (372), contributing to a WhoScored.com rating of 7.23.
Right midfield: Luke Molyneux (Doncaster) – 7.25 rating
Doncaster winger Luke Molyneux enjoyed by far the most productive league campaign of his career in 2024/25, producing 16 goals and 12 assists as the Rovers secured the League Two title and automatic promotion.
His 28 goal involvements were second only to Michael Cheek, but the most of any midfielder in the division, while no player provided more assists (12) than the 27-year-old.
Central midfield: Jamie McDonnell (Colchester) – 7.36 rating
Colchester midfielder Jamie McDonnell ranked second for tackles (132) of all players in League Two this season, while he also won the third-most aerial duels of any midfielder (198), to help himself to a WhoScored.com rating of 7.36.
Central midfield: Jack Payne (Colchester) – 7.10 rating
McDonnell is joined in the middle of the park by Colchester team-mate Jack Payne, whose eight goals and 10 assists equalled his finest individual campaign in terms of goal involvements (18 - also in 2021/22). Payne ranked second in the division for assists (10), third for key passes (91) and fifth for big chances created (13).
Left midfield: Max Clark (Gillingham) – 7.13 rating
Gillingham left-back Max Clark slots in at left wing-back in our XI after the most productive season of his career, with three goals and five assists. Clark also made more tackles than any other defender in League Two (109), leading to a WhoScored.com rating of 7.13.
Striker: Harry Smith (Swindon) – 7.33 rating
Swindon’s Harry Smith is the first name in our front three, after scoring 15 goals and providing three assists to help Ian Holloway’s side steer well clear of relegation and nearly mount a late play-off push.
Smith’s haul in front of goal was his best ever in an individual league campaign, while he also won more aerial duels than any other player in the division (348).
Striker: Michael Cheek (Bromley) – 7.31 rating
In his debut season in the EFL, Bromley striker Michael Cheek blew League Two away, winning the Golden Boot with 25 goals - at least six more than any other player. Cheek also provided an impressive seven assists to register more goal involvements than any other player (32), in an exceptional individual campaign.
Striker: Jayden Stockley (Port Vale) – 7.32 rating
Despite making just 29 League Two starts this season, Port Vale attacker Jayden Stockley rounds off our Team of the Season having notched 11 goals and seven assists for the side that finished second. And, like Harry Smith, Stockley was devastating in the air, winning 8.1 aerial duels per game, a figure that only Smith can better (8.9).
