Dan Ballard's 123rd-minute header secured Sunderland a place in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley.

A dramatic finish sent the Stadium of Light into raptures as Black Cats brute Ballard rose tall to steer home a corner off the underside of the crossbar deep into extra-time.

It means Regis Le Bris' side will now meet Sheffield United under the arch on Saturday, May 24, with a place in the Premier League at stake.

The tie, which finished Sunderland 3-2 Coventry City on aggregate, set an EFL record for the highest-attended two-legged Play-Off Semi-Final with a combined attendance of 77,823.

The Sky Blues levelled things up on aggregate after 76 minutes through Ephron Mason-Clark's side-footed volley.

But it was Ballard who became the hero, just as the tie looked like it was heading for penalties.

He told Sky Sports: "It's what dreams are made of, really. The fans today were absolutely incredible. It was just feeling like it wasn't going to be our day.

"All the lads were desperate to give them something to celebrate. What a dramatic final. It's what dreams are made of.

"I got up too early. I was so determined, and I can't remember what happened. It just happened like that.

"It’s some feeling that."
