Oxford United stunned promotion-chasing Ipswich Town with a spirited 2-1 victory at the Kassam Stadium, lifting themselves out of the bottom three and ending the visitors’ six-match unbeaten run.

Mark Harris fired the hosts ahead on 24 minutes, finishing coolly after a swift counter-attack.

Ipswich responded after the break when Leif Davis drilled home from close range on 53 minutes, seemingly setting up a late push for all three points. But Oxford had other ideas.

With Ipswich committing bodies forward, Przemysław Płacheta struck a superb left-footed effort from distance in the 77th minute to restore the lead and send the home fans into raptures.

Despite enjoying over 70% possession, Ipswich struggled to break down a resolute Oxford defence marshalled by Michal Helik and Ciaron Brown. Goalkeeper Jamie Cumming produced key saves late on to preserve the win.

The result moves Oxford out of the relegation zone, while Ipswich miss the chance to climb into the automatic promotion places ahead of the weekend fixtures.
