Last week, members of Rotherham United Community Trust were greeted with open arms by those of Northampton Town Community Trust at the Cobblers’ Sixfields Stadium after completing a 100-mile challenge in support of local physical and mental health projects.

In celebration of the Rotherham United’s centenary year, all 25 volunteers who embarked on the four-day walking, running or cycling challenge began their epic journey at the League One side’s New York Stadium before concluding at the home of Northampton Town ahead of their side’s recent away fixture.

The intrepid hikers set out on Wednesday 8 October, with Club legend and Honorary Life President, John Breckin, in-tow.

The Trust’s Director of Development, Jonathan Allan, told BBC South Yorkshire: “Every journey begins with one small step, and this is without doubt one of the toughest physical challenges the Trust has embarked upon.”

The mammoth charitable expedition was split into legs of 19 and 29 miles over the course of the four days, with the group journeying via Mansfield, Loughborough and Market Harborough before reaching their final destination.

Their efforts received plaudits on a Club-wide scale, in addition to the unwavering support shown by a number of familiar faces from the Millers’ hall of fame, including Breck and Ryan Cresswell – who joined for the final leg as he crossed the finish line at his former Club in Northampton.

As part of the South Yorkshire outfit’s Centenary Year celebrations, the Trust fittingly chose to map out a 100-mile route—symbolising each year of the Club’s history.
