Newcastle United U21 scored an stoppage-time equaliser at Mansfield Town to keep up their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages of the Vertu Trophy.

The Stags had looked to be heading for all three points after recovering from going a goal down early on to lead 2-1 going into the closing stages; Max Dickov and Finn Flanagan with the reply to Cathal Heffernan's opener.

They couldn't hold on however, as an Ollie Taylor own goal in the 92nd minute sent the game to penalties.

The visitors would then go on to take the extra point from the shootout, winning 5-3.

The result confirms that Group leaders Harrogate Town will progress to the Round of 32 with one Group F North fixture to play.
