Luton Town are unbeaten across their last 13 games against Stockport County as a Football League side (W7 D6), since a 2-0 loss in the third tier in November 1968.
Stockport County have lost three of their last four games against Luton Town as a Football League outfit (D1), conceding exactly three goals in each of those defeats.
Luton vs Stockport in the 2026 EFL Trophy final, both nicknamed the Hatters, will be the first-ever Wembley final between two English Football League clubs who share the same nickname.
This will be the third time that Luton and Stockport have faced in a cup competition with both times previously coming in the FA Cup; Luton won 3-2 in December 1932 before Stockport won 3-0 in January 1958.
En route to this season’s final, Luton won five of their seven EFL Trophy matches (L2), netting 2+ goals in each victory. In fact, Jack Wilshere’s side have netted the joint-most goals in the competition (17, alongside Doncaster), have had the most shots on target (49) and have recorded the second-most touches inside the opposition’s penalty area (209).
This is the third time that Stockport have reached the final of the EFL Trophy, though both of their prior attempts have ended in defeat; a 1-0 loss to Stoke in 1991-92 and a 2-1 loss to Port Vale in 1992-93. Only Brentford and Southend have featured three times in the final without ever tasting victory.
Luton won the 2008-09 EFL Trophy final 3-2 vs Scunthorpe, their only previous final in the competition. Bolton are the only team to have scored 3+ goals in two different EFL Trophy finals, winning 4-1 vs Torquay in 1988-89 and 4-0 vs Plymouth in 2022-23.
Both Luton and Stockport are making their first appearance at Wembley since their respective EFL play-off final fixtures in May 2023; Luton beat Coventry on penalties after a 1-1 draw to reach the Premier League, while Stockport lost their penalty shoot-out against Carlisle to remain in League Two after drawing 1-1.
Luton’s Jordan Clark both leads his side for goals (12) and overall goal contributions (16 – 12 goals, four assists) across all competitions so far in 2025-26. He also netted his side’s only goal on their last visit to Wembley vs Coventry in May 2023 in the Championship play-off final and found the back of the net in the ensuing penalty shoot-out.
In the EFL Trophy during the 2025-26 season, Stockport defender Joseph Oluwo has won more aerial duels than any other player in the competition (30). He also ranks second for interceptions (11), joint-second for clearances made (45) and third for overall duels won (37).
