AFC Wimbledon reached the Vertu Trophy Quarter-Finals with a 4-2 win over West Ham United Under-21s at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

The hosts made a dream start as Alistair Smith headed in from a corner after three minutes.

Callum Maycock doubled the lead before half-time, reacting quickest after Omar Bugiel’s effort was saved.

Marcus Browne added a third soon after the restart, finishing well against his former club.

West Ham hit back through Joshua Ajala’s stunning long-range strike and Lewis Orford’s late goal, setting up a tense finish.

Wimbledon sealed victory in stoppage time when Myles Hippolyte converted after Finlay Herrick parried Antwoine Hackford’s chip.

The Dons now await their quarter-final opponents, while West Ham bow out after a spirited fightback.
