Wycombe Wanderers climbed into the Sky Bet League One play-off positions with a hard-earned victory at Barnsley, while Exeter City and Rotherham United were forced to settle for draws in a busy midweek schedule.

Morley strike sends Wycombe into play-off spots

Wycombe moved into the top six with a 1-0 win at Oakwell, courtesy of Aaron Morley’s superb second-half strike.

The former Bolton midfielder produced a sublime finish from the edge of the area on 59 minutes to earn the Chairboys all three points, in a game where Barnsley failed to register a shot on target as their unbeaten home start to 2026 came to an end.

Nathan Lowe had an early effort ruled out for Wycombe after a foul in the build-up, while Fred Onyedinma was denied by a brilliant Owen Goodman save late in the first half. After Morley’s opener, Dale Taylor nearly doubled the lead following a defensive lapse, but could only fire straight at Goodman.

Even so, Matt Bloomfield’s side held firm to continue their upward momentum in the play-off race.

Exeter battle back to earn point against Burton

Matt Taylor marked his return as Exeter City’s interim manager with a 1-1 draw at home to Burton Albion, though his side were left frustrated after twice seeing goals ruled out for offside.

Both teams created chances in an energetic first half. Burton started brightly, with Tyrese Shade flashing a ball across the face of goal, before Exeter’s Jayden Wareham saw a scuffed finish blocked after being played through by Jack Aitchison.

Exeter thought they had found the breakthrough on 35 minutes when Luca Woodhouse converted, only for the flag to go up. Burton then came close themselves as Timur Tutierov struck the post, with Carlos Mendes Gomes somehow firing the rebound wide from close range.

Burton went ahead in the 64th minute when Udoka Godwin‑Malife powered in George Evans’ delivery from the edge of the area. But Exeter responded well, and were level nine minutes later when Wareham crossed for Josh Magennis to head home emphatically from eight yards.

Despite late pressure, neither side could find a winner as the points were shared at St James Park.

Rotherham held in Mansfield stalemate

Rotherham United missed the chance to move out of the relegation zone after being held to a goalless draw by Mansfield Town at New York Stadium.

Jon Russell, fresh from scoring twice at the weekend, forced an early save from Ted Cann with a low drive from 25 yards, while Mansfield nearly snatched a first-half lead when George Abbott couldn’t make full contact with Will Evans’ dangerous ball across the box.

The Millers came out stronger after the interval, with Reece James denied by a brave Lucas Akins block at the back post. Substitute Harry Gray also tested Liam Roberts with a fierce strike from distance.

Mansfield almost grabbed all three points late on when Louis Reed’s deflected effort looped narrowly over the bar, but the hosts held on to secure a point—though it wasn’t enough to lift them out of the bottom four.
