Bromley denied as Oldham hold firm

Bromley missed the chance to extend their lead at the top to seven points as they were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw at Oldham.

In a first half short on major openings, it was the hosts who carved out the best late chances. Jack Stevens drew a sharp save from Grant Smith, before Kane Drummond tested the Bromley keeper again moments later. Drummond went close once more early in the second half, his deflected effort drifting inches wide.

Both sides threatened in the closing stages, but Bromley defender Jesse Debrah headed over from close range deep into stoppage time, ensuring the leaders were left with a fourth draw in five league matches. Second‑placed Cambridge remain five points behind with a game in hand.

Chesterfield moved back into the League Two play-off places after a commanding 3-0 victory over Colchester United.

Will Grigg opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Harvey Araujo handled inside the box, following an earlier header that had been saved by Matt Macey. The lead was preserved thanks to a smart stop from Zach Hemming, who denied Arthur Read’s low strike.

Dilan Markanday doubled the advantage before half-time with a well‑taken finish from the edge of the area, and the points were secured when substitute Lee Bonis turned in a neat move created by Sammy Braybrooke and Dylan Duffy in the 72nd minute. The defeat leaves Colchester seven points adrift of the top seven.

Grimsby close in on play-offs with clinical first-half display

Grimsby Town moved within touching distance of the top seven after a 3-1 win over Salford City at Blundell Park.

The Mariners took control with a rapid three-goal burst before half-time. Keiran Green headed in Charles Vernam’s corner on 33 minutes before Vernam added a second, reacting sharply to fire home in a crowded box after Green’s cross caused havoc.

Jude Soonsup‑Bell made it three shortly before the interval, heading in Darragh Burns’ in-swinging delivery for his first Grimsby goal. Salford hit back through Cole Stockton, who followed up after Rosaire Longelo struck the bar, but the visitors couldn’t stage a late comeback despite Ryan Graydon going close with an acrobatic effort.

Newport climb out of drop zone with late surge

Newport County moved out of the relegation places for the first time in 151 days after a crucial 3-1 win over Tranmere Rovers.

Tranmere started brightly and took a second-minute lead through captain Sam Finley, who volleyed home superbly after Newport failed to clear a corner. But the Exiles grew into the game and levelled on 35 minutes as Michael Spellman finished low from the edge of the box following neat build-up with Ben Lloyd.

Finley’s evening quickly turned, however, as he received a straight red card for a high challenge late in the first half. With the extra man, Newport dominated the second period but were repeatedly wasteful—Harrison Biggins fired wide and Courtney Baker‑Richardson headed off target.

Their persistence paid off in the 88th minute when Cameron Evans stretched to turn in Bobby Kamwa’s superb cross. Spellman then sealed victory with his second of the night, moving Newport up to 22nd and consigning Tranmere to a fourth successive defeat.

Walsall’s home struggles continue as Fleetwood hold on

Walsall’s difficulties at the Bescot Stadium persisted as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Fleetwood Town, stretching their winless home run to six matches.

Mark Helm scored the decisive goal after 15 minutes, sweeping in Ethan Ennis’ cut-back despite Sam Hornby’s attempted block. Walsall responded well: Daniel Kanu blazed over when well placed, and chances came and went as Charlie Lakin, Aaron Pressley and Evan Weir all went close.

Hornby kept Fleetwood in control after the break with an important stop from Helm’s cross-shot, while Walsall continued to threaten. Kanu flashed wide, Jamie Jellis was denied on the line by Jay Lynch, and Jid Okeke saw penalty appeals waved away.

Ennis grazed the bar with a late header, but the visitors held firm to claim all three points and deepen Walsall’s home frustrations.
