AFC Wimbledon moved further clear of the Sky Bet League One relegation battle as Callum Maycock’s early goal sealed a narrow victory over Northampton Town at Plough Lane.

Maycock struck after just 10 minutes, finishing confidently following a clever backheel from Marcus Browne to cap a dominant first-half display from the hosts. Wimbledon controlled the tempo before the break, regularly building pressure as the Cobblers struggled to gain a foothold.

Northampton improved significantly in the second half, with Jake Evans twice forcing Joe McDonnell into smart stops as Kevin Nolan’s side pushed for an equaliser. Despite their increased threat, clear chances remained limited, and neither team was able to alter the scoreline.
