Coventry City strengthened their automatic promotion push with a commanding 3–0 win at Swansea City, as former Swans midfielder Matt Grimes struck against his old club in a flurry of first‑half goals.

The Sky Blues took complete control with three goals in 11 minutes before the break, a burst that proved enough to seal their seventh win in eight league outings and maintain a firm grip on top spot. Frank Lampard’s side now sit nine points clear of Middlesbrough and 11 ahead of Ipswich, with just seven games left.

Brandon Thomas-Asante broke the deadlock from the spot after Ephron Mason-Clark’s sharp turn drew a foul from Ben Cabango.

Swansea then contributed to their own downfall when Eom Jisung failed to clear, allowing Frank Onyeka’s delivery to fall kindly for Grimes, whose sweet 20‑yard volley clipped the post on its way in.

Coventry’s grip tightened moments later.

Another dangerous Onyeka cross found its way to Tatsuhiro Sakamoto at the far post, and his driven effort deflected off Ethan Galbraith to leave Lawrence Vigouroux helpless.

Despite the scoreline, Swansea carved out chances of their own.

Josh Tymon crashed a shot against the bar early on, Melker Widell struck the post shortly after Grimes’ goal, and Goncalo Franco headed narrowly wide from close range.

But any hopes of a second-half fightback fizzled out.

Coventry stayed in control after the interval, with Ellis Simms and Thomas-Asante both going close to adding a fourth, as Vitor Matos’ side saw their 10‑game unbeaten home run in the league brought to an abrupt halt.

Swansea drop to 14th, now 11 points outside the play-off places, while Coventry edge ever closer to a return to the Premier League.
